Cloughlea Shih Tzu

              CLOUGHLEA & CORRLOUGH

I have been involved in the show dog scene since I was a tot, growing up in a Gundog and Terrier household. My parents Wallie and Bernie Ladd bred Springer Spaniels under the Corrlough prefix.

In 1973, for my birthday, my parents gave me my very own dog to show, a Pekingese named "Jai Jin of Rathlin". They chose a small breed for me as the family Springer Spaniels were too big for me to handle at that time. In the mid seventies I co-owned with my Father and bred Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers under the Corrlough prefix.
With the passing of my Father in 2004, the remainder of the Corrlough Wheatens came to live with me and do so to this day.

In 1981 I got my first Bernese Mountain Dog, Ch Leonfort Lauri (Pepper) who was the first Irish bred Bernese bitch to gain her Irish title. She was also my first champion. Her dam Ch Darlodge April Love gained her title owned and handled by my Mother Bernie Ladd. My interest in Bernese has not wavered in the slightest and I follow the breed with great interest. In 2000 I had the honour of judging the Bernese Mountain Dog Breed Club Championship Show. In the early 80's I also handled my Mothers Labrador Kupros Black Falcon.

My husband bought me my first Shih Tzu in 1992, as we found ourselves for the first time  without a dog in the house. A year later I decided that I would like to show this breed, and I approached Jim and Vikki Grugan of the Jardhu Shih Tzu in Scotland for a puppy. In 1995 Jardhu The Bostonian came to live with us and it was then that I took on my own prefix of Cloughlea. Jardhu The Bostonian was was made up and became my first Shih Tzu Champion.   A good relationship between Jim and Vikki Grugan , and later with Leslie Ann and Lasse Bergqvist,  has enabled me to move forward and introduce new bloodlines.  I have made up six  more champions, three of which are homebred.

In 2003 I set up Classic Coat Care in Ireland. This was due to the lack of availability at that time in Ireland of quality Coat Care products for dogs and for those who take the presentation of their dogs seriously, both at home and in the show ring. The business has grown steadily and so has the range of products, due to the positive response from exhibitors and the pet owning community. I attend most of the all Breed Championship shows and some of the Open Shows in Ireland throughout the year, along with the Cloughlea Shih Tzus. Click on the Classic Coat Care link for further details on the products I stock.
